Especially in times like these… And I’m not too fond of Dutch schlager music but somehow I just love this song!
Last weekend I had a new personal high in my modest DJ career… Where I once deejayed in front of 1500 crazy Swedes, I now had a new peak… I accidentally ended up battling only classic records with one of Germany’s finest producers and one of my personal heroes: Âme (Frank) from Innervisions.
Despite having Âme as a headliner and unlike other editions, there were not too many people on our party in club 013 (Klub Tilt), due to Awakenings and the hot weather. But in my opinion, something magical happened during the impromptu battle at the end of the night. Not only is the man a true gentleman and also very funny, he obviously has a superb taste in records that matched really good to mine. The people who were there felt it too and a tiny euphoric feeling took hold of the tiny crowd : )
Funny thing: on the footage (sorry, poor quality!) you can hear Âme playing Killer by Adamski and after a while I’m mixing it with God Made Me Funky. On 1:42 minutes he came telling me that I stole his moment because he had cued up exactly the same record : )
(Thanks Vio for filming)
Went to one of the best cigar bars I’ve ever been to, Hudson Bar & Books. Consuming an 18 dollar cigar and an 18 year old whiskey with some smooth jazz in the background, in the best parts of Manhattan… the perfect combination I must say.
This thursday on Queensnight With Canadian masters Mathew Jonson and Mike Shannon from Wagon Repair, ànd… with us, Archibald Kobayashi and Smalltown Underground, hosting the Batcave.
See you all there!
From 8 to 30 May Graphic Design Festival Breda (NL) takes place.

(Thanks Stein!)
Here we go again!
Klub Tilt nr 7: Canadian Balance (the Queensnight edition) is coming up! With Mathew Jonson and Mike Shannon indeed a perfect Canadian Balance.
Us is hosting the Batcave and pssht… the word goes that it might be one big Smalltown Underground reunion… So when you read this and you were SUer, you definitely shouldn’t miss this one…
Thanks go out to Fina (photography), Donnée (model), Sil (photoshop) and Vio (graphic design and photoshop) for helping us out with the design.
See you all there!
Klub Tilt nr 6, British heroes was da bomb. Again a sold out house and a fantastic vibe. Applescal, Thomas Lauren and Max Cooper made us forget that Nathan Fake cancelled just two days prior to the big night.
Thanks to all who came and see you all on the next edition: Canadian Balance, with Mathew Johnson on 29th of april (Queensight).
Special thanks go out to Jonathan, Jeroen and Bart Jan. I think we have something very good in our hands here…
This friday we have our night in local venue 013 again! This edition the theme is British, with Nathan Fake as headliner… not… The man canceled just yesterday for some reason…
Not to worry! Other British legend in the make, Max Cooper, is replacing him ànd young Dutch talent Thomas Laurén will step the stage as a bonus.
Then of course I will dj in café lounge with my other Smalltown Underground homies. Since we are sponsoring the thing by doing the design, we all will be present. Would be nice to meet you there to get your feet up in the air together with us.
Cheers!
Yeehaa! British hero Nathank Fake from Border Community is playing on our own Klub Tilt on friday the 26th of march in 013, Tilburg! Also Dutch talent Applescal will be hitting the decks next to residents Guido and Jonathan. I am deejaying with my Smalltown Underground mates in the 013 Café and we (Sea Captain Plonk E) also did the design for the posters and flyers again. Many thanks go out to Tobias (model), Fina (photographer), Vio (concept and planning).
See you all there!
Our Norwegian friend Dolle Jolle mailed us this week that he has to play Melkweg tonight with his friend and other Oslowegian nu-cosmic-disco hero Todd Terje with their Shari Vari concept . We are going for sure. Want to come along?
Time for another Klub Tilt! Since Xmas and Sweden go well together, the fifth edition of Klub Tilt will hold a Swedish theme. With two big names from the land of Ikea and H&M: Özgür Can and Agaric, Klub Tilt promises that your second Xmas day will be A.O.K.
I would like to thank: Meldy, for being a superb model, Fina for her high quality photography, Vio for helpfull co-artdirection, Sil and Ingo for the photoshop after works and last but not least, Sea Captain Plonk E for the graphics and art direction.
Jon Pall Sigmarsson, during the eighties the infamous strongest man of the world, was, next to Geysir and before Icesave came into the news and Björk entered the stage, probably the only thing well known coming from Iceland. While we were there last week for the Iceland Airwaves festival, we tried to find his grave to honour him and Iceland, but really nobody could tell us where his grave was. But luckily we saw much, much more. I’m not going write it all down but I can tell you this: we love Iceland. A lot. Friendly people, fantastic vibe, astonishing nature, quality food, great music scene. One thing for sure: we are definately going back next year. Ceck out our pictures here, and our videos here.
In T-Town you will see a lot of Ingos glued to the walls these days. That’s because next friday Klub Tilt: Berlin Schwung will be held in 013. You should go there, because we all do too! Katarie as a DJ, Sea Captain Plonk E as the creator of the logo and poster, Mickey Tilburg as an artist of one of the records that will be spinnend and finally Archie as a financial sponsor! Succes guaranteed. So see you there.
Oh and, if you will grow a moustache and you can show it, you and / or your girl will get free champagne!
Read their, yes indeed very similar, blog here.
Tomorrow the Kobayashi group will fly to sunny Iceland again. Not for holidays this time but we’re going to attend the Iceand Airwaves festival. After checking out some of the bands on the net (let’s be honest, we didn’t know 90% of the bands that are coming) we only feel more excited. Some of the things we discovered you can check out here below (FM Belfast, Ben Frost, Hjaltalin, Cancer Bats). Gonna try to update the blog while we’re there, so keep posted!
Yes, they will ride again, the DJ knights from Smalltown Underground. The party organisation which set foot on earth midway the nineties and was put to sleep a couple of years ago will show its skills another time. Legendary DJ’s Kid Lama, Romain, Rocco and our own Katarie will rock the 013 Café Lounge all night long on friday the 30th of October during Klub Tilt: Berlin Schwung. This fresh Tilburg based party crew are going german style this edition with the great Kollektive Turmstrasse as headliner.
Note Archibald Kobayashi is sponsoring Klub Tilt, Katarie is DJing there and me, Seacaptain Plonk E is responsible for their designs.
Note 2 Yes, its Ingo Oszkinat you see with his tie in the beautiful Hässelblad picture, shot by our Fina.
Hi everybody. We’re awake again. The last week or so we didn’t find time to fill up the empty spaces here. Why? Because we were at the most wonderful and best festival of The Netherlands of which we are proud sponsors: Incubate.
We didn’t think it could be a better edition then last year. Wrong. Greater bands, greater atmosphere, greater peoples.
Over 250 acts in 7 days. Offcourse too little time to see everything, because you simply cannot attend every venue at every time. But thàt is just the beauty of it. You read yourselve into te program better, you have to make choices and aftwerwards you may listen to the stories of people who went to see the other stuff. It’s one big chaotic sharing thing and that feels great.
So, here are some things we loved: Hermann Nitsch, Soap & Skin, Hauschka, Future of the Left, Silver Pyre, Joker, Incubate Innovation Lecture, TV Buddhas, Uri Caine, Mad Professor, Tyree Cooper, Die!Die!Die!, Body Bill, Rummelsnuff, Aluk Todolo, James Blackshaw, Heavy Metal Bowling and Masshysteri.
Thanks Joost, Thanks Vince and thanks Frank. You know you have gold in your hands. We miss it already.
That is what we’re goin’ to do, one month from now.
But first: Incubate!
Yeeha! It’s a fact. We ‘re off to Iceland from october 15 to 18 to attend Iceland Airwaves 2009. Four of us are now going to see the moonlandscapes of beautiful Iceland. Want to join us? Info right here. Pictures here.
