February 25th, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

Something wrong with this image? A nice treasure of photoshop disasters on this blog. (Thanks Wolzibolt)

But if we had a negative of this image we would make it a 2 x 2 meter print and hang it in our office so we could enjoy this scenery every day. Then it would get a place next to this one.

Building a star on earth

February 24th, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

Last tuesday we saw Horizon (BBC), our favourite tv show. This episode was about the progress of making nuclear fusion the new energy. In a few words: scientists are trying to create star power here on earth. When they will nail that, there will be enough clean power forever.

The thing is that they are actually really close. Lets say 30 years from now there will never be any pollution or whatsoever and the world wil be a place with green, unlimited power sources for eternity. So please don’t stress out too much about polar bears dying out and stop living too ‘green’ because a) it wont’t help for shit and b) it’s a total waste of time.

Lego NY

February 24th, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

A series of plain Lego forms that made a person think of NYC.

It made us dream of The Big Apple too, because we will be there this thursday! Archibald and some of his team will stay in the Roosevelt Hotel on Madison Avenue and 45th street untill monday. So coming blogposts will have a New York taste too it and we will then also create our first ever podcast for Radio Kobayashi together with Bakker Wolzibolt! So stay tuned…

A.. quarium.. ah.. quarium

February 23rd, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

Compared to the post below this one, this ad costs probably zero dollars and is a gazilion times more creative. Simple and funny.

Pepsi

February 23rd, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

Pepsi has a new logo. It’s made by Arnellgroup and costs 1,3 million dollars and it’s designed with some kind of scientific approach. Does anybody really care?

The end for The End

February 22nd, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

One of the greatest clubs on this planet, The End in London, closed his doors this january after many years. The club with the exceptional dj booth has been a ground for the best dj’s in the world to spin their records. In this closing video you see footage of the final night and you hear staff and dj’s talking about the good times that lay now behind them.

Behind every clever girl …

February 22nd, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

…is a guy with a beard and glasses.

So true.. So true..

Chewie nightstand

February 20th, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

What a grand nightstand that guy has.

So, you want to start organizing a festival?

February 19th, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

Our friends at ZXZW threw their whole hebben en houwen on the street. Think Open Wiki 2.0 Social Festival twitter. In other words, they made their whole business model transparant through internet: “With this development the organization asks input of everyone who feels committed to the festival.” So, feel free to contribute!

Fontshuffle

February 19th, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

Every graphic designer sometimes wonders what kind of neat typeface it is they see on, for instance, a poster. Here’s the answer: Fontshuffle. An iPhone app that contains a whole font catalogue that solves the problem described above.

Street U.F.O.

February 12th, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

Not only nice street art but also a great photo.

Spy lights

February 11th, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

Big brother light is watching you.

Holy Robot

February 11th, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

This robot, installed at the 3d International Biennial of Contemporary Art in Seville, writes down the whole bible. “The machine draws the calligraphic lines with high precision. Like a monk in the scriptorium it creates step by step the text.” Great to see how two extremes of today (religion and science) are brought together. (Thanks LouLou!)

Paula Scher: Great design is serious (not solemn)

February 10th, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

Paula Scher, designer of tons of record sleeves and, for instance, the CitiBank logo, talks about the fun in design. It starts pretty slow but it becomes actually quite interesting with visual examples and all. About seriousness against solemness. Just watch it.

Go Beatles go

Calma

February 9th, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

Calma is Stephan Doitschinoff’s alter ego. The Brasilian artist, famous for his illustrative and spiritual paintings, now bundles his work for the first time in a book.

Le Renault Dix Huite Turbo…

February 9th, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

La force de silencieuse… Great ‘futuristic’ commercial with great special effects and sounds.

Time of my life

February 6th, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

“17 years worth of taking 2 photos a day as my head rotates in sync with the Earth around the Sun. This is a non-dejittered, lo-res, highly compressed, preliminary version of a lifetime project. Later versions will have additional imagery throughout” Nice.

Best track ever, part IX: Can you feel it

February 5th, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

By Mr. Fingers aka Larry Heard. This 1987 Chicago House masterpiece was one of the tracks that took house music to another level. Our new best track ever.

Obama’s signature

February 4th, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

Looks good we think! And if you compare it to Jimmy Carter’s, Ronals Reagan’s or G.W.’s signature it’s a piece of fine art.

Quite nice: T Mobile commercial

February 4th, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

Allright, it’s a bit corny and all but we have to admitt we raised the corners of our mouth watching this T Mobile advert. It was filmed at Liverpool Street station, London, one morning.

But seriously, are you f*cking kidding me? LET OUT THE DEMON!

Old school party flyers

February 3rd, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

An endless list of old school flyers from the early 80’s in New York with names like Africa Bambaataa, Gradmaster Caz, Chiefrocker Busy Bee and Spoony Gee. Wonder if 50ct and Sean Puffy Combs realise that those yellow flyers helped to build their golden palaces. (Thanks Flattyre)

Thieves!

February 2nd, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

Very true and well put by film director Jim Jarmusch. Reminds us of Picasso saying: “Good artists copy, great artists steal”.

Scared mannequins

February 2nd, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

Funny ads created by Harvey Nichols: mannequins ducking for shelter like they were going to be hit by a vulcanic explosion of wild crazy bargain hunters.

The Lemur Multitouch

February 1st, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

Futuristic multitouch panel for musicians made by Jazzmutant. It’s pretty hard to get it under control we heard, but it can perform some amazing tasks as you can see here. We want to have!

Casa Suntro

February 1st, 2009 Archibald Kobayashi

A nice place to live we say. Architecture done by Jorge Hernandez somewhere in Mexico.
